Plan an Event

STEP 1

So, you want to plan an event….

First things first, why? What do you want the impact of your event to be?

Do you want people to learn? Reflect? Be inspired?

A good way to start is to consider the event from an attendee’s point of view. What might they expect? What can you do to make them engage and feel comfortable?

From the start, build in practical elements such as breaks and realistic timings.

STEP 2

Plan the Content

Consider who may attend. Their age and knowledge will influence your programme content.

If you’re stuck, think about what did you learn on your Project, which parts resonated with you and how did this shape your understanding of the Holocaust? Can you use this to inspire your audience?

Ensure that the voices and experiences of those whose lives were affected are included, you could even invite a survivor to give testimony.

STEP 3

Think logistics

Find a location and pick a date that will work for your audience – for example, if you want to reach school groups, could your local school be the venue?

Reach out to your local council to see if they can help or offer support. Download our email template on our templates page.

Ensure all health and safety is covered, risk assessments, fire safety – liaise with your venue

For educational content, invite academics to deliver sessions. Universities may have lecturers or PhD students that could help.

Step 4

Share your success!

Email ambassadors@het.org.uk to let us know how you got on and how many people you reached.

Share pictures of your event on social media – make sure to tag us!
